New Mexico Brewfest: Early Prep

New Mexico Brewfest tickets are going on sale this weekend! The announced out-of-towners are New Belgium, Deschutes, Stone, Oskar Blues, Left Hand Brewing, Odell. I was in the mood for a stout this weekend and decided to pick up a couple from breweries that would be at Brewfest. I got stouts from NM Breweries Sierra Blanca and Santa Fe and out-of-towners Deschutes and Left Hand.

Alien

Sierra Blanca: Alien Imperial Stout

I have been dying to try this one. I love an imperial stout my favorites being TenFiddy by Oskar Blues and Old Raputin by North Coast. I was disappointed by this one. It was cloyingly sweet – at least for my taste – and I felt you could taste and smell the alcohol content. I know this is a big beer, but I do not feel Old Rasputin and TenFiddy are this sweet and the alcohol level is not as noticeable.

Obsidian

Deschutes: Obsidian Stout

I have never had a beer by Deschuted but enjoyed this stout.

Nitro

Left Hand: Nitro Milk Stout

I have had a few beers by Left Hand and really like their portfolio of beers. This one was pure milk stout goodness.

Java Stout

Santa Fe: Java Stout

Sante Fe Brewing is awesome. I sampled this at Brewfest last year and loved it. The coffee flavor is strong and perfectly balanced.

I can’t wait for Brewfest and with this lineup of out-of-town breweries I may be shelling out some cash for VIP tickets. And getting my grub on at the local food trucks Supper, Rustic.
